Puzzle House
Passive solar principles were the primary driver for this 2 level extension to an existing weatherboard family home for an energy and climate conscious family in Melbourne's East. Incorporating significant upgrades for energy efficiency and thermal comfort to the existing home, the project also provided a substantial increase in living space through utilising the sloping block to create a split level extension. The new part of the house comprises a family living area, master suite​ and office.
Check the photos below to see passive solar energy in action. Winter sun is allowed to penetrate deep into the living space where the solar energy is captured by the thermal mass of the polished concrete floor to be radiated back into the space as the temperature drops in the evening.
